A few days in Lima

I am completely working backwards but as I posted school pics I found all these other pictures that we hadn't shared.  In July before coming to Pucallpa we stopped in Lima to finalize our carnets.  We got to enjoy a little of the city (which actually had a little sunshine this time!) for just a day.

Happy Belated Birthday Liam!

With back to school I haven't been able to post pics from Liam's birthday.  He had an awesome day!!  Several of our new, wonderful friends came over and thanks to Ree Drummond and Etsy printables he had some pretty cool cupcakes too (if I do say so myself..lol!)  Can't believe he is 5!!

Ella reading him the card she made.
My first transformer!  Uncle Brian will be so proud!

Our good friends the Martins got to be part of his special day while visiting Pucallpa.
The neighborhood kids...lol!  An awesome little bunch celebrated with us and made it a great day!

Hanging out in the heat:)
Gifts from Grammy and Uncle Brian...yay!!  Thank you!!

School starts!

After over a year of training and support raising here we are! Our first day of school at SAM Academy in Pucallpa, Peru! I didn't realize just how excited I would be to be back in a classroom! I am teaching third grade while Mike is teaching Geometry, Chemistry, and Earth Science for high school and middle school. Ella takes her teacher home with her as she is in my class and Liam is attending Colegio Cristiano Peruano Americano, a Peruvian school. He is in the Kinder 4 class. We are very thankful for parents from our school who are helping us carpool him!

Liam's first day of school!

Ella's first day!
Back to School meeting before starting our first day. Minori Lucas our principal is in the front.
My little group to start the year! We have at least 4 more coming who are currently on furlough or finishing a term at a Peruvian school. Aren't they a cute bunch?!
One of Mike's classes
Hypothesizing how to balance a robot on our fingers. We had new desks on the way...they came up short...literally. They were built too small for our big third graders. Such is life here!!
It worked!

We are off to a great start!

Our new home!

Our days here in Pucallpa have been very busy! We gave been working hard to set up home and adjust to our new city before school starts next week. We are living on the SAM Mission base where the school is located in a SAM house. It's a good place for us to be and I think its starting to feel like home. We did some work on the house along with little things like putting up curtains and replacing old screen. The kids each have their own room which they love except at night and we usually have several gecko friends inside and out:)

You come into the house through what I have affectionately nicknamed the "mud room" thanks to the kids.

Our kitchen from our living/dining room. The door leads to our "cool room" the one room with air conditioning and the hallway goes back to our rooms.

Looking back at the living room. This room gets really hot during the day!

The cool room...because its just that awesome:) I won't show you the desk which is piled high with school stuff right now!

El-bell's room....it's not normally this clean:)

Liam's room with an extra bed all ready for visitors. The snake is stuffed...don't worry!

And just for fun...lol!

Our room is the catch all room and is off limits to cameras😉

Now to get the classroom ready!

Finishing language school

I can't believe how fast our time has passed.  July marked the end of our time in language school in Arequipa.  Our time there was well spent though we could have used more!

Our teachers and classmates from ABC Institute.

Liam with his teachers.  Miss Mirobel gave him a good-bye gift.

Ella with her teacher Miss Marlene and a few classmates.

Our farewell "despedida" along with another missionary family.  The Haylett's are headed to Colombia to serve.

With our friends Donna and Rick Martin who will be serving in another area of Peru.  They were with us during our ICC training in N.C. as well.

Sailing the S.S. Avenger!  Liam made this boat for a school project.  It went on its maiden and final voyage before we left.

Our dear friends Ruth and Dennis, missionaries from Canada.  They took wonderful care of us in Arequipa and the kids are going to miss them terribly.
